Nepal May Soon Give Parents More Time With Their Newborns

The Nepal government is preparing to amend the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act, 2075 (2018), with a major proposal to expand paid parental leave.

Under the proposed changes:
👩 Mothers: At least 6 months of paid maternity leave
👨 Fathers: Up to 42 days of paid paternity leave

Law Minister Sobita Gautam said the bill has already been drafted and is being prepared for approval by the Council of Ministers before being tabled in Parliament.

She said changing lifestyles, increasing work pressures and smaller family sizes make it important for parents to have enough time with their newborns.

And the message behind the proposal is clear: raising a child isn't only a mother's responsibility.

If approved, the changes could mark a significant shift toward shared parenting and stronger family support policies in Nepal.

Seven-Year-Old Arjun Turns His Birthday Into a Gift for Nepal

Instead of asking for birthday presents, 7-year-old Arjun Raj Poudel asked his family and friends to donate money to help children affected by floods and landslides in Nepal.

Born in Haiti and now living in Edmonton, Canada, Arjun raised C$1,500 around NPR 165,000.

The son of a Nepali father and Haitian mother, Arjun remains connected to Nepali culture through his love for bhajans and kirtans.

He donated the money through the Happy Nepal Foundation, turning his special day into an act of kindness and solidarity with children facing the aftermath of disaster.

Australia Sends 17 Specialised Drones to Nepal for Disaster Response!

Australia has provided 17 specialised drones to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to disasters.

The drones will support: Search and rescue, Disaster assessment, and Emergency response.

The Australian Disaster Assistance Team has also trained Nepali officials to operate the drones, helping build stronger disaster preparedness and response capabilities in Nepal.

After Surviving 9 Days Trapped Underground, Sanjay Sah Is Finally Home

Sanjay Sah, who survived nine days trapped inside a hydropower tunnel after last month’s devastating floods, has returned to his village in Saptari after being discharged from the hospital.

His return became an emotional homecoming as his family and around 60 villagers gathered to welcome him.

In a traditional ceremony, villagers washed his feet, while his mother applied vermilion tika to his forehead before embracing him with tears of joy.

Sah said he finally feels free and wants to spend time with his family and villagers.
