What are the Ten Commandments?
They are the holy will of God, or the Law, wherein God tells us how we are to be and what we are to do or not to do.
Micah 6:8.
He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Deuteronomy 6:6-7.
And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children.
Deuteronomy 10:4.
And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the Lord spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the Lord gave them unto me.
When and how did God give this Law?
In the creation of man He wrote it in man’s heart, and afterwards He laid it down in ten commandments written on two tables, and published it through Moses.
Romans 2:14-15.
For when the Gentiles, which have not the Law, do by nature the things contained in the Law, these, having not the Law, are a law unto themselves: which show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.
*Bible History:*
Exodus 19:20
Moral Law, Ceremonial Law, Political Law.
What is the Sum of the First Table?
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
Matthew 22:37.
What is the Sum of the Second Table?
“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
Matthew 22:39.
What, then, is in one word the Sum of all Commandments?
Love.
1 Timothy 1:5.
Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart.
Romans 13:10.
Therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law.
Whom does God mean when in the Ten Commandments He says,
“Thou shalt”?
Me and all other men.
*Here are the 10 commandments:*
You shall have no gods before me.
You shall not make any idols to worship.
You shall not take the Lord's name in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
Honour your father and your mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness.
You shall not covet your neighbour's goods.
Rem:
The Ten Commandments of God are a set of Biblical principles that are very important in Christianity and Judaism.
The Ten Commandments can be understood as moral guidelines which try to explain how people should behave towards each other.
Most religions have similar sets of guidelines that help people make decisions and act in what they believe to be the right way.
