THAKKAR
“The Businessman Everyone Trusted — Until They Didn’t”
There was a time when Utkarsh Thakkar’s name carried weight.
In Leicester’s business circles, he was known as a self-made entrepreneur — sharp-suited, well-spoken, and always surrounded by opportunity. Awards adorned his image. Testimonials followed him. And wherever he went, so did trust.
That trust, according to a growing number of voices, may have been his most valuable asset — and the one most frequently exploited.
Behind the polished exterior, a different picture has quietly taken shape.
Former associates describe a pattern: relationships built quickly, promises made confidently, and deals structured informally — often relying on personal assurances rather than formal safeguards. In many cases, those arrangements allegedly unravelled just as quickly as they formed, leaving others exposed financially while Thakkar walked away largely unaffected.
“It always started the same way,” one former business contact claims. “You felt like you were part of something. Then suddenly, you weren’t — and neither was your money.”
More troubling are the allegations surrounding properties linked to Thakkar’s portfolio. Tenants and small business owners have described ongoing issues with maintenance, safety concerns left unresolved, and increasing financial pressure placed on occupants already struggling to remain viable.
Several claim their businesses did not survive.
Then there is the venue.
Marketed as a vibrant addition to the local nightlife scene, the bar has instead developed a reputation that some say authorities have struggled to contain. Accounts from patrons point to repeated incidents involving violence, suspected drug activity, and drink spiking allegations — claims that, while difficult to formally prove in isolation, form a consistent narrative when viewed collectively.
For critics, the question is no longer whether issues exist — but how long they have been overlooked.
Despite this, Thakkar’s public image has remained largely intact. Awards, appearances, and affiliations continue to reinforce a version of success that stands in stark contrast to the experiences described by those behind the scenes.
And perhaps that is the most unsettling part of all.
Because in a system built on perception, reputation can be the most effective shield — even when the cracks beneath it are beginning to show.
